I think there is some mileage in allowing assymetric kites for boats that sail 3 up with no plank or wire. This could attract more family sailing and appeal to a wider audience.

Name a boat that is seen regularly with 3 crew when racing - not 18's or small keel boats

The problem with the Hornet is that it is just too narrow to allow an assymetric - boats like ISO, Boss, RS family etc are all wider and round-bilged. The thought of sailing a hard chined Hornet with assymetric, with or without plank/trapeze/3 people, would give me the willies.
Either develop the skills to sail a symmetric boat properly (it's a very satisfying skill for the crew and much more fun than assy's), or cut your losses and buy a boat that's been designed for an assy, and catch up with your sleep on the downwind legs

Just to go back to the original post Sven, if you're still out there, there is a Hornet event next weekend about 75 miles from you when we go to Carsington. Are you with us?
