Dear All,

I have just received this email and wondered if you were aware of it.

Dear Class Association

To help dinghy classes promote themselves at the London International Boat show,
Yachts & Yachting magazine and website are again sponsoring the 'Battle of the
Classes' Pursuit Race, on Sunday 14th January in the Royal Victoria Dock, right
outside the ExCel boat show halls. This is a great opportunity for you to show
case your class to the sailing public with a maximum of two boats from each
class fighting it out on the water. Spectator access has been improved for 2007,
with viewing areas available from the dock, the footbridge and the Royal Navy
Frigate providing great grandstand views of the racing.

For 2007, we have managed to negotiate with National Boat Shows Ltd to allow
exhibition space for ten dinghies on the hard next to the dock for the final
weekend of the show, completely free of charge. This is a great chance for Class
Associations to promote themselves to the boat show public and is open to the
first ten classes who enter the Pursuit Race. To apply for exhibition space,
contact Paul Botterill of Barton Marine, paul@bartonmarine.com, once you have
filed your race entry.

The notice of race and entry form are available at
http://www.yachtsandyachting.com/2007botcNOR.pdf . Trophies are awarded to the
first boat overall, the first class overall, (combined results from the two
boats,) and first under 16 entry. 44 boats entered last year, with the Solo of
Stephen Denison from Hollingworth Lake crossing the line first, with the two
Merlin Rockets not far behind in 2nd & 4th claiming the class prize. Top Junior
was Ben Palmer in a Topper. If you want to be a hero for your class, send your
entry in before December 21st to Lorraine@YachtsandYachting.com, or post to
Yachts & Yachting, 196, Eastern Esplanade, Southend-On-Sea, Essex, SS1 3AB. Each
entry receives two free tickets to the show, for both single and double-handed
boats, ensuring you have a great day out. The prize giving will be at 4.30pm in
the Boat Show Boulevard, so bring your friends and family along to support your
class.

I look forward to seeing you all on the water!

Best regards

I would go for it but I wonder if some of our better sailors should represent the class.

John/Roger

Good to have you volunteering. I am sure the class will benefit. I do wonder if we should go for one adult and one junior entry given we have the juniors who would and by virtue of the opportunity to obtain more than one trophy ...it could really put the Class in lights.

Thoughts ?

Liam

Does Will want to come up? Maybe Sam can meet him on the way?

Will is too old as of last Monday. On balance, if Strangler is interested as per your e-mail then you and he would make a good pairing of one fast wood and one fast plastic.

Apols to Roger but it does seem as though we have two fast boats with fast helms and provided they come up trumps..'No Pressure Then' ....we have the best opportunity to put the Class profile where it should be.

Of course if they screw up we won't give them too hard a time on the circuit ! Mind you if the Merlins still sail off 1021 has anyone got a chance !

Great Idea! Especially to get the juniors out there. Go for it!

All, I am quite happy to take a back seat.  My skills would put us nearer the back than the front of the fleet.

Good luck to the team.
