A step closer (kind of) to Garda...

The Scorpions looked at this before committing. Here are a few details from their forum regarding costs, etc:

Excerpts from Tom Jeffcoate's posting :
This topic came up again last weekend so I've gone and done something about it. We have a provisional booking with Carnac YC for the 24th - 27th May 2014. Yes it's a long way off but I have other things to sort out next year and their diary is already filling up. This weekend covers the bank holiday so will only require 1 - 2 days holiday depending on where you live and I am hoping it will be the start of half term for those who are influenced by such things??

A few details:
The club - www.yccarnac.com
The town -  http://www.ot-carnac.fr/en/ - ->link<-
Getting there - about 7 hours drive from Calais, 4 1/2 from Le Havre or 2 from Brest.
The cost - entry is likely to be around €150 depending on numbers / socials etc, everything else as you would expect from a seaside town

We need a minimum of 30 boats  to make it viable, I think we could do this on our own quite easily but for the sake of the social side I was going to invite a few other classes to join us and the more there the merrier (Carnac have hosted various international events and others like RS eurocups so they can handle lots of boats and have plenty of experience). If anyone has ideas on who best to invite please let me know.

Entry fee - approx €200 for a week

Accommodation - loads of apartments in all the venues plus room for motorhomes / camping nearby. Prices probably similar to cornwall.
Race management - these clubs host big events (943 optimists at garda last year) so no worries there
Shore crew - doubt you would find any complaints! All 3 are top venues. Just ask google.
Clubs - Again, top class venues. Carnac and Garda are right near the centre of town, La Rochelle is about 20 mins walk from town.
Weather - La Rochelle is reknowned as more of a light winds venue (unless there are storms in the bay of biscay) while the other 2 are known for more wind. Garda has been a bit fickle by its standards in recent years but it is still force 4 and sunshine more often than not in the summer.

At present I have 18 Scorpions (only counting Dave once), 5 N12s, 13 Merlin Rockets, 6 Larks and 1 Firefly all saying they are interested

Just a thought, but if we don`t 'piggy back' and it could be organised, would the fleet be interested in going to Carnac in 2016 for our Euro`s ?.
Our friends in Poland might like the idea as well.

I like the idea and my wife would certainly enjoy it. We were there about 12 years ago. It's a lovely area.

I'm already going to the event.... I'm taking the Merlin with Dawn.

Europeans would be epic!

Although I do also know a club in North Brittany that may also be interested... Beach launching was 'fun' at times, but if B14's can do it Hornet's will be easy

Growing nicely... One to watch for '15 or as Dick says '16.

Update, now not going with the Merlin, but hope to get back there soon. It's great sailing and well run racing. I've done a B14 Europeans and a B14 Worlds there. Both were great.
