Well, what a surprise that was! Nice weather for the Bloody Mary this weekend. Sunny, relatively warm and a sensible wind speed!

Not the greatest result, but a great sail non the less and good to be back in the boat with Gareth Russell after nearly 6 moths off. We were surprisingly rust free in the boat and lack of practice was certainly not our undoing.

In conditions I would argue are probably the worst for Hornet's, we managed to keep the lead Fireballs at bay for most of the race and had a good scrap with the Merlins in the process. A good result was out of the question about 30 seconds after the start when it became clear the committee boat end of the line was the place to be. We consoled ourselves that we had made the same mistake as some very well known sailors who were out on the left with us!

Other than that everything was pretty good and as a first event of the year, we can take a lot of positives from it. Moving forward we will be doing the Tiger Trophy next at the beginning of February and then the Hoo Freezer, before the season officially starts at the Dinghy Show in March. We hope to see you there.

Well done Toby for flying the flag. I saw on Y&Y the Furballs didn't fair too well either.

Cheers

Clint
