Training requirements -  What do you want?

As Strangler has pointed out Fastsail have organised on-shore (I believe) training for the various classes. If you are interested, please either register your interest here or on the Fastsail website.

Continuing on this theme, what do you, the members, want from your training (if any),  where and when?

Let's break this down:

Format/Organisation - we have been very lucky over the last 15 years (at least) to be able to call on Michael McNamara to support our race training. Hopefully we can ask upon Michael's services again but do you have any preference on the areas to be covered?

What would you like in the future, one-to-one instruction, two boat tuning sessions, mini race series, buddy support for those new to the class. Training within an open event (popular with the Scorpions). Let me have your ideas.

Location - We have tried various venues including Stone, Netley, Bartley, Bewl Valley but there has never been any favourite. Does this matter, is it more important to be central or at a Hornet club.

Dates - This will obviously depend on how much training is requested and the type. But would 2-days be preferable to one (or even an option for those who cannot sacrifice a whole weekend)? Would a training session just before the nationals be of interest?

One reason I would like to get a better idea of the training needs is because RYA are actually showing interest in our classes. One of their objectives is to get the top sailors within each class to coach those lower down the fleet. But if there is no need (because we all consider ourselves top sailors) we will not pursue it!

Fastsail have already scheduled some training in May at Rutland, which is open to us, but I'm sure there are other opportunities available from some of the classes involved (particularly the javelins).

If you simply think we are flogging a dead horse, just us know. If we get no response that will just worry me!

Tom

Tom

As a newbie to the class and recently returned to sailing I would be up for any training. I was hoping to go to the fastsail event but am unable to go. Any advice would be welcome. If travelling long distances a weekend would suit better. Any chance  I can sail at Netley at some point with other Hornets.

Roger

ps I have a trophy for you as agreed last year.

FASTSAIL CALENDER - Try a Fastsail boat -Rutland 14/15 May.

This is a traditional Flying Dutchman event that they say has been “hijacked” by FastSail. Not sure there is much interest outside the FDs. However if anyone is interested we could do our own training sessions on Sat and probably join in the Short Course racing on Sun. If you are interested in going please let me know here & leave email address.  Cheers Strang
