I have no opinion either way but don't forget that you already allow for example Mylar sails with Spectra. Mylar is polyester and HMPE covers products such as Spectra and Dyneema.

Therefore you are not in the Dacron versus laminate argument because you already allow laminate sails.

This change would only open up the various cloths to allow Aramids (Kevlar, Technora) and carbon fibre. Don't forget that sails which have black lines in them are more often black polyester rather than carbon, particularly in small boats.
