Just a brief reminder about the Symmetric Grand Prix to be held at Rutland Water SC, 10-11th July.

The Deadline for the reduced entry fee is 10th June - that's tomorrow, so get your socks on.

So far we have a very disappointing entry of only 6 Hornets (last year we had the second highest attendance of 16 boats). If you want to the class regarded as a third class citizen in the Symmetrically sailing stakes, don't bother. If on the other hand, you want to show the Hornet in its best light and enjoy some cracking sailing at the same time, follow this link http://gbr562.co.uk/register.php

Fastsail (of which we are now a major contributor) has put a considerable amount of time and energy in to the organisation of this event. This year there is even more sponsorship so prizes will given throughout the fleet, not just the top overall positions.

If you are basing your decision not to go on what happened at Datchett (poor saiing water and organisation by DVWSC), think again. Rutland is very different.

Tom Guy

Welcome

The Fastsail Organisation was founded just over a year ago at the Dinghy Show 2003. After many years of competing against each other (both on and off the water) the Hornet, Javelin, 505, Fireball, 470, Osprey and Flying Dutchman classes met and agreed to hold an event to celebrate symmetric sailing.

The event became the Symmetric Grand Prix - one of the most successful dinghy sailing events of 2003. Following its success, the 7 seven classes agreed to combine to form The Fastsail Organisation. Its our aim to promote symmetrical sailing to new and established members of all the classes. By joining together, we can share our experience, use the skills throughout the fastsail fleet and promote ourselves more successfully.

This site is our headquarters and all class association members and other interested parties are welcome to browse, join in the chat and offer their ideas and thoughts on what we do. Please register so that you can enjoy full participation of the site!

YOUR INPUT IS VITAL TO THE SUCCESS OF BOTH FASTSAIL AND YOUR CLASS ASSOCIATION!

If you'd like a Tshirt for the SGP, Steve G ([email protected]) is taking orders now.

You need to pre-order otherwise there is no guarantee that you will have them at the event but will have to wait a bit.

Cath

Ps 8 hornets now.

By the way, did you know that the Handicaps have been tweaked a little for this years SGP?

In order to make the racing fairer accross the Fastsail classes we intend to tweak the handicaps each year based on the SGP finishing results.

The system we are using to apply the changes can be seen at the bottom of this post and was drawn up by our very own Tom Guy.

So to clarify the handicap situation for this years 2004, the following will apply,

Hornet,
2004 SGP PY=976

470,
2004 SGP PY=970

505,
2004 SGP PY=900
Classics = Sail nos prior to 8000 will sail off a PY 902

Flying Dutchman,
2004 SGP PY=879
Classics to sail off 880 -

Fireball,
2004 SGP PY=981
Classics to sail off 982 -

Osprey,
2004 SGP PY=940

Javelin,
2004 SGP PY=927
Classics = Sail nos prior to 500 sail off PY 928

THE SYSTEM,

1. Datum: to be based on 2003 RYA Portsmouth Yardsticks
2. Calculation of Handicaps in accordance with YR2 - RYA Portsmouth
Yardstick Scheme (i.e. ignoring Poor Performers)
3. Average personal indicator (for each class) to be used, as opposed to
minimum or maximum
4. Gradual increase in the PI contribution, with provision for additional
Fastsail events:
2004 = 2003 Published PY ± 10% of 2003 PI
2005 = 2003 Published PY ± 20% of ((PI2003 x N2003)+ (PI2004 x
N2004))/ N2003 + N2004
2006 = 2003 Published PY ± 40% of ((PI2003 x N2003)+ (PI2004 x
N2004) + (PI2005 x N2005))/ N2003 + N2004 + N2005
2007 = 2003 Published PY ± 60% of ....
2008 = 2003 Published PY ± 80% of ....
2009 = 2003 Published PY ± 90% of .....
2010 onwards = use 90%

Where PI = personal indicator for class
N = total number of races
Notice that if there is more than one Fastsail event is sailed in one year,
the separate contributions can be added easily:
For example: For 2005 there may be 2 events A & B
Therefore 2005 contribution would be made up of:
(PA x NA)+ (PIB x NB))/ NA + NB
