I have to agree Jon. The fireballs have done something very similar with a classic fleet aimed at narrow bow boats. I have mentioned to Strangler that perhaps now is the time to set up a classic wing with some time allowances for, for example non revolution boats.

I dont think the RYA would need to be involved initially. I think the class could offer a seperate prize for the classic boats who could sail from the same start in the same race but for a different prize. It may get some of the older outclassed boats back out of the sheds.

When I sailed 140 at Netley a couple of years ago we and another planker were regularly about 3 minutes an hour behind the rest of the fleet but Im not much better in a revo. That may be a starting point if you wanted to compete on an equal basis using handicaps.

The CVRDA do a different and rather complicated system depending on age of boat,  state of tune, amount of modification and how the OOD feels on the day but we probably race on a less serious basis the main aim being to get the old boats out on the water and preserve them.

Just something else for the poor overworked committee to deal with.

The main advantage in getting the RYA to adopt the system of age adjusted PY for a class is that this can then be used to persuade clubs to allow for the PY adjustments. I understand that, in the Merlin's, many club's would not accept the PY adjustments when just Class supported, but reluctently adopted them once supported by the RYA.

"If you go within 200 meters of Liberty Island you will be arrested".

The Coastguard ribs had machine guns mounted on the bow. But some FDs still went round the back of the island coming in after racing. Never seen again....
